WHY does favoritism matter?
What was happening that James needed to touch on this? Judaism had begun to see wealth as a sign of God's favor and poverty, sickness, and low social status as a sign of His displeasure. James is flying in the face of that: Faith in Jesus Christ and favoritism do not belong together!
